Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Defense Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan visited Punjab in February 2018. Meanwhile, his flight was not allowed to land in Amritsar until he agreed to meet the then Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. Canadian newspaper Globe and Mail has revealed this in one of its reports.

The newspaper’s report comes within days of the arrest of three Punjabi youth in connection with the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijhar. Diplomatic relations between Canada and India are already strained due to allegations of involvement of Indian agents in the murder.

According to the report, during a meeting in Amritsar on February 21, 2018, Amarinder had handed over the list of 9 A-category terrorists present in Canada to Trudeau. He told Trudeau that Canadian soil was being misused by people with opposite ideologies to finance terrorist activities in India.

Captain Amarinder Singh had also told him that the Canadian government had failed to take any action against nine people, including Nijhar, except in one or two cases.

The Globe and Mail report quoted a source as saying, “The talks with Captain Amarinder Singh were not smooth. He said that Canadian government officials have assured the Indian government that they will consider the list submitted. Let us tell you that this is not the first time that the Indian government has given a list of such criminals to Canada.
