WHO report: A recent study by the World Health Org.zation has made shocking revelations about the excessive use of antibiotics during Corona. Antibiotics have further spread the super bug i.e. antimicrobial resistance (AMR). AMR is resistance that occurs when the body produces too much of an antibiotic.

This reduces the effect of medicines, especially antibiotics, on the body. According to the World Health Org.zation, only 8 percent of hospitalized people who tested positive for COVID-19 developed bacterial infections, typically requiring antibiotics.

As an extra precaution, 75 percent of the patients were given doses of antibiotics. The Western Pacific region had the lowest number of patients receiving antibiotics at 33 percent, compared to 83 percent in African countries. From 2020 to 2022, doctors in Europe and America prescribed the most antibiotics to patients.

Dr. Sylvia Bertagnolio, head of the AMR Sector Surveillance Evidence and Laboratory Unit of the United Nations Health Org.zation, said that if a patient needs antibiotics, apart from its benefits, it also has side effects, so giving antibiotics if not needed. There is no benefit. Good but causes harm. Its excessive use increases the prevalence of AMR.

Unnecessary use of antibiotics may expose patients to unnecessary risks. The study clearly states that antibiotics are of no use in the treatment of Covid-19. Many people did not get the bacterial infection. This study by the World Health Org.zation is based on the data of about four and a half lakh patients admitted due to Covid in 65 countries from March 2020 to March 2023. Super bug i.e. reducing the effect of antibiotics in the human body is the most worrying thing for human health.
