New Delhi: Sowing of summer crops, done in the period after harvesting of Rabi crop and before sowing of Kharif crop, has increased by 7.50 percent to 71.80 lakh hectares so far in the current year. Last year, till May 3, summer crops had been harvested in a total area of ​​66.80 lakh hectares. Sowing of summer crops is almost complete.

Summer paddy was sown in 30.30 lakh hectares, 10 percent more as compared to the same period last year. According to the data of the Agriculture Ministry, the sowing area of ​​pulses has also increased by more than 4 percent to 19.96 lakh hectares.

Among pulses, sowing of moong has increased while sowing of urad has decreased. Major sowing of summer pulses takes place in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Orissa, Tamil Nadu.

Cultivation of oilseeds is also seen increasing by 3.90 percent. Groundnut and sesame are harvested in oilseeds.

In this season, only crops which are ready in short time are sown.

Meanwhile, according to another report, the production of plantation crops like tea, coffee, rubber and cardamom is likely to be affected in the current year due to high temperatures.
