Asifa Bhutto Zardari, daughter of Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, was sworn in as a member of the National Assembly on Monday. Asifa Zardari, who started a new innings in the field of politics, was elected unopposed from NA 207 Shaheed Benazirabad on March 29. Asifa reached National Assembly with brother Bilawal Bhutto.

Asifa reached the National Assembly with her brother and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto. National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq administered the oath to him. Meanwhile, MNAs belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) raised slogans and later Treasury MPs staged a walkout.

PTI had protested over the arrest of its NA 207 candidate Ghulam Mustafa Rind by the Sakrand police. PTI party said that Rind was their representative, who was to contest against Asifa in the by-election.

President Zardari congratulated his daughter

President Asif Ali Zardari shared pictures of the oath taking ceremony on social media platform Twitter(X) and wished Asifa all the best for the new innings. “President Asif Ali Zardari has congratulated Asifa Bhutto Zardari on taking oath as a member of the National Assembly,” he wrote in the post.

 

 

The National Assembly of Pakistan also shared pictures of the swearing-in ceremony of Asifa Ali Zardari. Posting on Twitter, it was written, “Asifa Bhutto Zardari sworn in as new member of the National Assembly. Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq administered the oath,” Meanwhile, PPP described Asifa’s swearing-in as a historic moment. Asifa’s sister Bakhtawar Zardari also celebrated the moment. PPP’s Central Information Secretary Faisal Karim Kundi also described Asifa’s swearing-in as a historic day in the history of Pakistan.
