2 April 2011 was a historic day for the Indian cricket world. This was the time when on the day of Team India’s match, which was the final match of the ODI World Cup, everyone was imprisoned in their homes. Team India reached the final after 8 years. The defeat of the 2003 final left a wound in the hearts and eyes of everyone hoping to repeat the 1983 dream. In the final match, Team India under the captaincy of MS Dhoni faced Sri Lanka under the captaincy of Kumar Sangakkara.

Only 3-4 players did not become champions..

Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, India created history by winning the final match by 6 wickets. The country is happy after winning the ODI World Cup after waiting for 28 years. Today we are celebrating that victory even after 13 years in 2024. But it is often seen that only three or four players get the credit for that victory. These were not just 3-4 players, but there were also players whose names are probably unknown even today. He was hardly remembered in the World Cup victory.

Everyone knows that Yuvraj Singh was the player of the match. Everyone knows that Dhoni and Gambhir had given the team a spectacular victory in the final. Everyone knows about Sachin Tendulkar’s 400+ runs. But not only these 3-4 players but 10 players contributed to this victory.

Who were those 10 heroes of India’s victory?

You all must have seen the performance of the four named players mentioned above. But young player Virat Kohli also had an important contribution in that World Cup victory. Suresh Raina, who scored useful runs for the team in the knockout matches, also contributed equally to this victory. Or if we talk about bowling, Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel and Harbhajan Singh also took many wickets.

Virender Sehwag’s contribution while opening from the first match till the last match cannot be forgotten. All 10 players played an important role in this victory. Not only this, injured Ashish Nehra also supported Zaheer Khan very well in the semi-finals.

How was the performance of all 10 players?

  • Sachin Tendulkar- 482 runs
  • Gautam Gambhir- 393 runs
  • Virender Sehwag- 380 runs
  • Yuvraj Singh- 362 runs and 15 wickets
  • Virat Kohli- 282 runs
  • MS Dhoni- 91 not out in the final
