Importance of Makar Sankranti festival
According to astrology, when the Sun enters from one zodiac sign to another, it is called ‘Sankrat’. The festival of Makar Sankranti is celebrated when the Sun enters Capricorn.

Due to the movement of the Sun towards the Northern Hemisphere from the festival of Makar Sankranti, it is also called ‘Uttarayan’. According to the scriptures, the day of the gods begins from this day. Therefore the festival of Makar Sankranti has special significance.

When will Kharmas end?
Kharmas starts when the Sun enters Sagittarius. Kharmas will end when the Sun leaves Sagittarius and enters Capricorn. Doing any auspicious work is prohibited during Kharmas. After January 15, you can do auspicious works like marriage, mundan and house warming. Sun’s entry into Capricorn is considered very auspicious.
