Chennai, 28 April (HS). In the 46th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 78 runs. With this win, CSK has taken a huge leap to third place in the points table. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was chosen man of the match for his excellent batting.

In the match played on Sunday at Chennai’s home ground MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, batting first, scored 212 runs for three wickets in 20 overs on the basis of half-centuries from captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell. In reply, Hyderabad’s batting was very poor. In such a situation, the entire team was reduced to 134 runs in 18.5 overs. In this, Aiden Markram scored 39, Heinrich Klaasen 20 and Abdul Samad scored 19 runs. For Chennai, Tushar Deshpande gave a strong performance and took four wickets while Mathisa Pathirana and Mustafizur Rahman got two wickets each.

Earlier, batting first, Chennai had scored 212 runs for three wickets in 20 overs thanks to 98 runs from captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and 52 runs from Daryl Mitchell. Hyderabad won the toss and decided to bowl first and fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave the first blow to Chennai by dismissing opener Ajinkya Rahane. After this, however, Ruturaj and Daryl Mitchell batted brilliantly and supported the team by making a century partnership of 107 runs for the second wicket. Gaikwad scored his third half-century of this season, while Daryl also did not lag behind and was successful in completing his fifty.

However, Jaydev Unadkat ended this partnership by dismissing Daryl Mitchell. Mitchell hit seven fours and one six in his innings of 32 balls. After this Shivam Dubey supported Gaikwad well. Gaikwad continued his aggressive innings from the other end and was close to scoring his second consecutive century. However, T. Natarajan prevented Gaikwad from scoring a century by dismissing him on the second ball of the last over. Gaikwad hit 10 fours and three sixes in 54 balls in his innings. After this, Dhoni came on the field and the Chennai audience welcomed him warmly.

Shivam Dubey also batted aggressively and returned unbeaten after scoring 39 runs in 20 balls with the help of one four and four sixes. Dhoni also remained unbeaten after scoring five runs on two balls with the help of one four. On the strength of Gaikwad and Mitchell, CSK was successful in scoring a strong score.
