The Indian women’s and men’s relay teams have qualified for the Paris Olympics in the 4x400m relay. The Indian women’s team finished second in the second heat of the World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas on Monday. The men’s team also qualified for Paris by finishing second in their second heat.

In the women’s 4x400m relay, the quartet of Rupal Choudhary, MR Poovamma, Jyotika Sri Dandi and Subha Venkatesan clocked 3 minutes and 29.35 seconds and finished second. At the same time, Jamaica’s team stood first with 3.28.54. In the men’s 4x400m relay, the team of Mohammad Anas Yahya, Mohammad Ajmal, Arokia Rajeev and Amoj Jacob finished second in their heat with a timing of 3 minutes and 3.23 seconds. While the USA men’s team finished first with a time of 2.59.9.

 

Let us tell you that the men’s team failed to complete the race in the first round of qualifying heat as second leg runner Ramesh had to withdraw due to cramps. With this quota, India has 19 track and field athletes in the Paris Olympics, including Tokyo Olympics gold medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra. Athletics events at the Paris Olympics will start from August 1.
