Spices not only enhance the taste of food but there are many spices which prove to be panacea in the treatment of diseases like cancer. In view of this, researchers at IIT Madras have patented the use of an Indian spice which can prove successful in the treatment of deadly diseases like cancer. Officials said on Sunday that medicines made using this spice with medicinal properties are likely to be available in the market by 2028.

Nano medicines made from Indian spices have shown effect on cancer cells in lung, breast, colon, cervical, oral and thyroid, the official said. However, these drugs were found to be safe in normal cells. Researchers are currently working on the safety and cost of cancer drugs. The issue of safety and cost for cancer drugs is an ongoing challenge. He said that recently a successful study was conducted on .mals. Now clinical trials are being planned with the aim of making these medicines available in the market by 2027-28.

Nano-oncology has no side effects

Professor R., Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Madras. Nagarajan said Indian spices have been known for their health benefits for centuries. Their bioavailability has limited their application and use. Nano-emulsion formulas overcome this limitation. It was important to consider the stability of the nano-emulsion and this formulation was adopted in our laboratory. He said that studies are needed to identify the mech.sms of interaction between active organs and cancer cells and these studies are ongoing in our laboratories.
