Proper diet is essential for health. Adequate vitamins and minerals should be present in the food. But in today’s fast food era, the trend of fast food has increased so much that people have started deficient in nutrients. ICMR has published 17 guidelines to prevent diseases like obesity and diabetes.

Suggested to adopt healthy diet

It says that premature death can be prevented by adopting a healthy lifestyle. The situation is worsened by excessive consumption of sugar and fatty foods and a sedentary lifestyle, leading to micronutrient deficiencies and overweight, and limited access to a variety of foods. It also suggested adopting a healthy lifestyle and being informed by reading food labels and making healthy food choices to prevent obesity.

DGI published guidelines

The Dietary Guidelines for Indians (DGI) has been prepared by a multidisciplinary committee of experts headed by Dr. Hemlatha R, Director, ICMR-NIN and has undergone multiple scientific reviews. Seventeen guidelines have been published in the DGI. Dr. Hemalta said that through DGI we emphasize that the most logical, sustainable and long-term solution to all forms of malnutrition is the availability, accessibility and affordability of nutrient-rich food. ICMR Director General Dr Rajiv Bahl said there have been significant changes in the dietary habits of Indians in the last few decades, which has led to an increase in non-communicable diseases. While some problems of malnutrition still persist.
