Delta Airlines has canceled 157 flights. Nearly 2,000 flights were also delayed, according to flight-tracking website Flightaware.com. Airports in Tampa, Clearwater and Tallahassee have suspended operations and are monitoring storm conditions. Residents of vulnerable coastal areas in Florida are being told to pack their belongings and stay away from areas after it strengthened and made landfall in Mexico. A release order was issued. Governor Ron DeSantis said, ‘People should not unnecessarily risk their lives.
Even President Biden Can Make Adjustments
Even President Joe Biden may adjust his visits because of Idalia. On Wednesday, Biden said at the White House that he may have to adjust his personal and official travel schedule because of Idalia. He says he has spoken to the governors of all the states likely to be affected by the storm. Biden has assured them that the federal government will provide necessary assistance.
Hurricane will wreak havoc in Florida
The storm can take a terrible form. The National Weather Service in Tallahassee called Idalia an “unprecedented event.” No major hurricane in known history has passed through the bay adjacent to Big Bend. Florida, which is still reeling from the devastation caused by last year’s Hurricane Ian, is expected to be hit hard by Idalia. Idalia was downgraded to a Category 2 hurricane by Tuesday afternoon and a Category 3 storm by Wednesday morning. Hurricanes are measured in five categories, with the fifth category being the most powerful.
