New Delhi, May 9 (HS). Ireland head coach Henrique Malan is among the four candidates selected by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for the post of head coach of the High Performance Unit. The position has been vacant since David Hemp joined the national men’s senior team as batting coach.
On 27 February, the BCB appointed Hemp as the batting coach of the Bangladesh men’s team, taking over as the head coach of the HP unit from May 2023.
BCB is looking for a replacement for Hemp as the HP program is set to begin in mid-May.
According to Cricbuzz, Malan has not completely ruled out the possibility of taking up a new challenge.
“We will be interviewing the shortlisted coaches to head the HP unit in the coming week,” BCB HP Unit Chairman Naimur Rahman told Cricbuzz on Wednesday.
It will be interesting to see whether the BCB would be keen to rope in Malan as he may not be available from the start of the HP camp, as he is expected to guide the Ireland national cricket team in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, which Scheduled from June in USA and West Indies.
Apart from Malan, the BCB is also considering three other names, including Gavan Twining (Australia), Nathan Hauritz (Australia) and Paul Adams (South Africa).
