Before the T20 World Cup 2024, the International Cricket Council has taken strict action and suspended West Indies batsman Devon Thomas for five years. The board took this decision on 2 May. The ICC has suspended Thomas from international and domestic cricket until May 22, 2028, after admitting seven counts of breaching the anti-corruption codes of conduct of Sri Lanka Cricket, the UAE and the Caribbean Premier League. Devon, 34, pleaded guilty to the charges and his sentence was reduced to 18 months. Alex Hales, General Manager of the ICC’s Integrity Unit, said that Thomas, who has played professional international, domestic and franchise cricket, is involved in several corruption cases. He is aware of all the anti-corruption code of conduct but has failed to play his role. The ban is justified and this punishment will send a clear signal to other players that strict action will be taken against those involved in fixing.
