CBSE Board has written, ‘In the circular issued on January 10, 2019, it was talked about two levels of mathematics. Maths Standard was for those students who want to study Mathematics (041) in Senior Secondary level i.e. 11th 12th. Whereas Maths Basic was for those who do not want to move forward by taking Maths to a higher level.

‘According to that circular, those who had chosen Standard Maths (041) in 10th could take Maths (041) in 11th. Whereas students who had opted for Basic Maths (241) could take only Applied Maths in class 11th.

The board further wrote, ‘Due to the Corona pandemic, CBSE had offered Mathematics subject (041) in class 11th and 12th to those students who had opted for Basic Mathematics in class 10th. Now in this session 2024-2025 also, students are being given relaxation under the recommendations of NEP with some changes-

  • This relaxation is being extended only for the academic session 2024-25. That means, this year also the students who had chosen Maths Basic (241) in class 10th can take Maths (041) at the time of admission in class 11th.
  • However, while admitting such students with this subject, the Head/Principal of the concerned school must ensure that the student actually has the aptitude to study Mathematics (041) in class 11th.
