NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) leader and former Congress MLA Zeeshan Siddique received a death threat via email on Monday, prompting immediate action from the Bandra police. A team from Bandra Police reached Siddique’s residence around 9 PM on Monday and began recording his statement, according to police sources.
The matter is being taken seriously, and an investigation is underway to trace the origin of the threat and ensure the politician’s safety. The Mumbai Crime Branch is also conducting a parallel investigation into the case.
Former MLA Zeeshan Siddique, who is the son of the late leader Baba Siddique, told the Free Press Journal, “I have received three emails within two days. The sender claimed to be from the D Company, threatened to kill me, and demanded a ransom of Rs10 crore. I received the emails on my official ID at specific intervals. I immediately approached the police, and the Bandra police team came to my residence to record my statement.”
Deputy commissioner of police Nimit Goyal, stated, “A threat email has been received by ex- MLA Zeeshan Baba Siddique. Bandra Police Station is in the process of registering FIR.”
Following the murder of Baba Siddique, Zeeshan Siddique’s security was increased, and he currently has ‘Y’ category protection. Zeeshan has received a few death threats since his father’s murder. Baba Siddique, a former state minister, was gunned down in the Nirmal Nagar area of Bandra East on October 12, 2024.
Meanwhile, Bandra Police said that Siddique’s security arrangements are regularly reviewed. However, the leader himself confirmed that he had received another death threat recently.
