In yet another case of online honey-trapping from the Bund Garden Police Station jurisdiction, a 30-year-old man from Pimpri was brutally assaulted and robbed by four people who had created a fake profile on the gay dating app Grindr.

The incident took place on March 18, around 6:00 p.m., near the RTO signal Chowk at the broken section of a boundary wall of Pune railway station. The FIR was lodged on March 22, 2025.

The accused have been identified as Imran, a resident of Mangalwar Peth, and his friends.

According to the police, the victim had created a profile on the dating app, where he was connected with the accused Imran a few days ago. Imran had created his profile on the app posing as gay.

They connected, and a conversation started between them. Later, Imran invited the victim to meet near the RTO Chowk. When the victim arrived, he was led through a broken section of a boundary wall to an isolated open area near the railway premises, where three of Imran’s friends were already hidden, waiting for him.

He wasd forced to withdraw money from ATM

The victim was physically assaulted by them and was forced to withdraw all the money from his bank account via ATM. He was forced to give ₹10,000. The gang demanded an additional amount, and when the victim refused, they continued to beat him with tree branches, fists, and kicks, causing injuries to his face, back, and left shoulder.

Ravindra Gaikwad, Senior Police Inspector (Bund Garden Police Station), speaking to Free Press Journal, said the accused had created a fake profile and robbed the victim by threatening to reveal his identity if he didn’t fulfill their demands.

“We have identified the main accused, and he will be arrested soon. People need to be aware of such scams and avoid meeting strangers alone. Further, the matter is under investigation, and strict action will be taken against the culprits,” he added.

A case has been registered at Bund Garden Police Station under sections 309(6), 115(2), 352, 351(2)(3), and 3(5) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita.
