Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A youth was assaulted by members of a Hindu organisation inside Bhopal’s district court premises on Friday over allegations of ‘love jihad.’ The youth, identified as Sayyad Ahmad, had come to the court for the registration of his marriage with a Hindu girl.
A video of the incident, which showed the youth being beaten with kicks and blows, went viral on social media. According to reports, the couple from Pipariya had arrived at the court for their marriage when members of a Hindu organisation and ‘Sanskriti Bachao Manch,’ arrived at the scene.
They alleged that Ahmad had lured the Hindu girl for an illegal religious conversion and demanded action against him. Chandrashekhar Tiwari, president of the Manch, claimed that Ahmad had concealed his real identity to manipulate the girl, and had been in a relationship with her for three years under a fake persona.
He alleged that the youth’s phone contained photos and phone numbers of several Hindu girls, accusing him of targeting them through a ‘love jihad’ trap. The MP Nagar police arrived on the scene and took both the youth and the girl into custody. The girl’s parents later arrived at the police station, and she expressed a desire to return home with them. Police are awaiting any formal complaint before proceeding with further investigation.
