Delhi High Court: Amidst the assembly elections in Delhi, the High Court has made an important comment on the Aam Aadmi Party government. The High Court has expressed doubts over the honesty of the government over not presenting 14 reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in the Assembly. The court has made this comment at a time when two CAG reports have been leaked in the media. In which a loss of more than Rs 2000 crore has been claimed to the government exchequer due to wrongful expenditure of crores of rupees on the CM’s bungalow and excise policy.

The bench of Justice Sachin Dutta questioned the Delhi government regarding the CAG report. Criticizing the Delhi government for the delay in considering the CAG report, the High Court said, ‘The manner in which you have retreated raises doubts on your honesty. You should have immediately sent the report to the Speaker and started a debate in the House. The timeline is very clear. You backed out from calling the assembly session. The delay and delay in sending the report to LG in this matter raises doubts on your honesty. Delhi government should have been proactive in sending the report to the Speaker. In response to this, the Delhi government questioned, ‘How can an assembly session be held so close to the elections?’

On the last hearing, the Delhi Assembly Secretariat had told the court that ‘presenting the CAG report in the Assembly does not serve the purpose as the tenure is ending in February. Earlier, Delhi High Court had sought answers from Delhi Government, Speaker and other concerned parties. All 14 reports have been sent to the Assembly Speaker.

BJP MLAs approached the High Court demanding presentation of the CAG report in the Assembly. BJP has been demanding to present the CAG report in the Assembly for a long time. BJP says more than a dozen CAG reports are pending in the Assembly for years.
