A young man was killed, and another was injured after five assailants attacked them with a knife on Sunday, March 23, in Ahmedabad. Ironically, just a few meters away from the crime scene, locals caught police personnel sleeping in a Police Control Room (PCR) vehicle.
A video of the cops sleeping has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage. After facing backlash online, Ahmedabad Police ordered a probe into the matter.
According to reports, five unidentified assailants attacked two youths, killing one on the spot, while the other was hospitalized in critical condition.
Neighbors who gathered near the crime scene after learning about the incident found a police PCR vehicle parked nearby, with officials in uniform sleeping on a cot and inside the vehicle.
The locals woke up the sleeping cops, recorded the confrontation, and uploaded the video on social media.
Ahmedabad Police responded to the viral video, stating, “Action is underway against the police personnel responsible for this matter.”
The police personnel assigned to PCR duty are required to stay alert, conduct regular patrols, respond promptly to emergencies, and ensure public security.
The murder took place when two young men, Vijay alias Vishal Shrimali from Narora and Priyesh, confronted a group of six individuals over verbal abuse.
A heated argument broke out, during which one of the accused, Jaisingh Solanki, fatally stabbed Vijay in the chest. Priyesh sustained serious injuries while attempting to intervene. Vijay succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while Priyesh was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
So far, six suspects have been taken into custody, including the two directly involved in the stabbing.
