Actress Radhika Apte, who is also a new mother, attended the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) on February 16 at London’s Royal Albert Hall, and while at it, she also fulfilled her mommy duties by pumping breastmilk for her newborn. While the actress herself shared the post on social media, netizens criticised her for consuming alcohol at a time she was still breastfeeding.
On Tuesday, Radhika took to her Instagram handle to share a picture of herself posing inside the washroom of the BAFTAs venue while pumping her breast milk for her baby. In the other hand, she can be seen holding a glass of champagne.
“I have to thank Natasha for making it possible for me to attend the BAFTAs. She scheduled the itinerary around my breast pumping timings. She not only accompanied me to the washroom to express milk but more importantly brought me champagne in the loo. It’s hard as is to be a new mum and work, this level of care and sensitivity is rare in our film industry and much appreciated (sic),” she wrote, along with the photo.
While some netizens and her friends lauded her for being a hands-on mommy, others criticised her for consuming champagne while breastfeeding. “Ideally you shouldn’t be drinking while breastfeeding babe (sic),” a user commented, while another wrote, “I am sorry to say Radhika but you are giving a wrong message through this pic. If you are expressing milk while drinking, there is a very high chance that the alcohol will be expressed in the milk and will be transferred to your baby. It is very unhealthy for the baby (sic).”
It was in December 2024 that Radhika announced the birth of her child with husband Benedict Taylor. While she has not yet officially revealed the gender of the baby, her friend Sarah Afzal hinted that the actress is now a mom to a baby girl.
Radhika and Benedict tied the knot in 2012, and the actress makes sure to keep her personal life away from the limelight.
