Chandigarh: Former India cricketer and the father of Yuvraj Singh on Saturday made a sexist comment that “wives do not really know much about the cricket” and players should not take them on tours. Yograj Singh made these remarks while lauding the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) for its reported rules regarding restrictions on family members accompanying men’s cricketers on tours.

When asked about the BCCI’s reported rule, the former India cricketer said there is no need to take wives along when the players are with the team. “When one is travelling with the team, what is the point of travelling with your family? It shakes your focus. You can do whatever once you retire but when you’re playing for your country then carrying your chefs and all adds an extra burden,” Yograj told IANS during an interview.

Singh further added, “Wives don’t really know much about cricket, why would you want your kids and wife with you? When you’re playing, the team is your family, I don’t think it is needed. I am against it.”

As per the BCCI rules, which are now widely shared on social media, for a tour of 45 days, the family members of the players can only be with them for not more than 14 days. Meanwhile, during shorter tours in foreign countries, the immediate family members of a play can stay up to a week.

Last week during a podcast also Yograj Singh made sexist remarks about women.  Speaking on Unfiltered with Samdish, Yograj had said, “Wife will destroy your house if you give her power. Sorry to say, Indira Gandhi ran this country and destroyed it. Give them respect and love, but never give them power.

Meanwhile, the former India cricketer also praised the BCCI officials for their approach towards picking the 15-member squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. “I am very happy, I want to congratulate the selectors and the BCCI. The people who have played cricket are the ones who have selected the team. They have retained the correct players, Rohit will be captaining the side and Shubman Gill will be the vice-captain because he will be leading in the future,” he told the news agency.

Singh also hailed the BCCI for supporting the players who are going through the rough patch. “This is the correct way of going about things, we should back and support players who are going through a rough patch.” However, Yograj Singh felt that Abhishek Sharma should also have been in the team.

“I will say that Abhishekh Sharma should have also been in the team as he is going to be a big player in the future and this is a great opportunity for him to learn,” said the former India cricketer as quoted by IANS.
