Yashasvi Jaiswal has finally broken his silence on reports about him making the switch from Mumbai to Goa Ranji team. On Wednesday, April 2nd, reports emerged about him asking for No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to switch the teams. In an interview with Indian Express Jaiswal finally broke his silence about the reason behind making the move. He said,”It was a very tough decision for me. Whatever I am today is because of Mumbai. The city has made me who I am, and all my life, I will be indebted to the MCA,”.

He added, “Goa has thrown me a new opportunity and it has offered me a leadership role. My first goal will be to do well for India and whenever I’m not on national duty, I will be playing for Goa and try to make them go deep into the tournament. This was an (important) opportunity which came my way and I just took it.”

According to The Times Of India report, BCCI joint secretary Rohan Desai, former secretary of the Goa Cricket Association (GCA), said, “It’s a big development for Goan cricket. Goa’s cricketers, especially the youngsters, will get to learn a lot from Jaiswal, who is a part of India’s Test team. It’s a blessing that a player of his stature will be a part of Goa’s dressing room. It’s a good decision by the GCA management to include Yashasvi in the squad. I’m looking forward to an exciting season for Goa.” Goa, who played in the Plate division of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season and won the final, have been promoted to the Elite division for the coming season.

Mumbai born Arjun Tendulkar is already playing for Goa after having represented Mumbai cricket team at the junior levels. Senior Mumbai cricketer Siddhesh Lad also made a brief appearance for Goa before returning to Mumbai Ranji team last season.

Jaiswal last played for Mumbai against Jammu and Kashmir at Bandra Kurla Complex in their Ranji Trophy Group A league round match from January 23-25 following the strict implementation of the BCCI directives that all India players should play domestic cricket if not on national duty
