In a move to enhance awareness and understanding of retirement planning among its workforce, the Mumbai Division of Western Railway organized an informative seminar on the Unified Pension System (UPS) and National Pension System (NPS) at the Divisional Railway Manager’s (DRM) Office on 5th May 2025.

According to  Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway,  Vineet Abhishek, the session was aimed at educating employees about the benefits, procedures, and operational aspects of the two major pension schemes. The highlight of the seminar was a comprehensive presentation on the Unified Pension System (UPS)—a newly introduced initiative by the Government of India. Designed to ensure a defined and guaranteed pension, UPS is based on the employee’s last drawn salary and length of service, thereby offering enhanced post-retirement financial security.

A key feature of the UPS is its centralized digital platform, which integrates all pension-related services into a single, user-friendly system. This platform allows employees to track their service history, monitor pension status, lodge grievances, and manage documentation from the date of joining through retirement. It also ensures timely processing, greater transparency, and reduced delays across departments.

The seminar was conducted by senior officials and pension experts, who addressed employee queries and emphasized the importance of early and informed retirement planning. The initiative reflects the Mumbai Division’s commitment to employee welfare and its proactive stance in ensuring staff are well-equipped to navigate key aspects of their professional lifecycle.
