Mumbai: The Worli police have booked Dr. Vimal Kumar Dengla for the alleged molestation of a female colleague. Dr. Dengla serves as the honorary secretary General of an institute in Worli. The case was filed on December 24 based on the complaint of a 50-year-old woman.

According to the FIR, Dr. Dengla resides in Mount Abu, Rajasthan, and visits Mumbai to attend meetings and events at the institute. Being visually impaired, Dr. Dengla relies on his assistants for communication.

The complainant has been working at the institute since November 2018. She claimed that during one of Dr. Dengla’s visits to the Worli office, he asked her to his cabin for work. The complainant alleges that he asked her highly personal questions that made her uncomfortable. She responded firmly, but she alleges that Dr. Dengla then began to trouble her via another female colleague.

The complainant further stated that another female colleague, allegedly acting at Dr. Dengla’s behest, started harassing her after the incident. The harassment reportedly began in November 2018 and continued over time.

The victim also alleged that when Dr. Dengla became aware of her intention to file a police complaint, she was transferred to the institute’s other office. She claimed that the institute’s work environment has become increasingly unsafe for women employees.

The complaint led the Worli police to register a case against Dr. Dengla under Section 79 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. FPJ contacted Dr. Dengla, and he stated, “I am not aware of the case, and I do not want to comment on it.”
