BCCI’s debt to Mumbai Police: BCCI is the richest cricket board in the cricket world. Its annual income is in billions. Cricket boards around the world accept this and often keep blaming it. Given the income and power of the Board, it is difficult to imagine that the Board would be indebted to the Mumbai Police and the Board is yet to pay its dues to the Police. Now Mumbai High Court has given a big blow to BCCI in this matter.

Mumbai Police owes Rs 6.3 crore to BCCI

The BCCI on Friday assured the Mumbai High Court that it will pay within two weeks the dues to Mumbai, Pimpri Chinchwad and Navi Mumbai police for the security provided during the match. Further the Cricket Board said, ‘We will have to pay Rs 1.7 crore to Pimpri Chinchwad Police, Rs 3.3 crore to Navi Mumbai Police and Rs 1.03 crore to Mumbai Police.’ That means BCCI owes Rs 6.3 crore to Mumbai Police.

BCCI will pay this amount in two weeks!

In response to the petition filed by activist Anil Galgali, BCCI said, ‘BCCI promises to pay this amount within two weeks.’ Galgali filed a petition challenging the Maharashtra government’s decision to allow the June 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), T20 and other cricket matches. The rates prescribed for police protection were reduced with retrospective effect from 2011.

No intention to save police – BCCI

In this petition, the employee had raised objection against the circular which was implemented with retrospective effect from the year 2011. Because then the amount outstanding on BCCI will also reduce. BCCI in its affidavit said, ‘There is no intention to deprive the police of the outstanding debt of BCCI and an undertaking has been given to pay the disputed amount within 90 days of settlement of accounts with the concerned police authorities.’
