Getting large -scale donations at religious places is not new. In India, temples in Tamil Nadu receive record breaking donations. A mosque in Bangladesh has also set a similar record. After the day -to -day counting in the donation boxes of the historic Pagla Mosque in Kishoreganj, a record of Rs 9.18 crore was received, which is the biggest donation ever in the history of the mosque.
Earlier, this mosque received the highest donation of Rs 82.1 crore in Bangladesh, which was recorded in the count on 30 November 2024. The officials involved in the count said that all the money was later deposited in the Kishoreganj branch of Rupali Bank, while the foreign exchange and gold jewelery found in the donation boxes have been preserved in the treasury of the district administration.
The count of donations lasted for 10 hours.
Fauzia Khan, deputy commissioner of Kishoreganj and chairman of the Pagla Masjid Management Committee, said that the counting of donation started at seven in the morning and continued till 5 pm. The process lasted for 10 hours and included around 401 people. The count was done after a gap of four months and 12 days, when the donation boxes were opened, the money was received in 28 sacks. Gold jewelery and foreign currency were also found in large quantities.
What will be done about this donation?
Situated on the banks of the Narasunda River, this mosque receives a large number of donations and donations are usually opened every three to four months. Officials said that with this money, the expenses of Pagla Mosque and Islamic Complex are first met and the remaining money is deposited in the bank. With this fund, along with other mosques, madrasas and orphanages across the district, the poor and seriously ill people are donated.
