Recently an interesting case has come up in Australia, in which the woman minister has allowed the use of YouTube. Indeed, a new law has been implemented in Australia, under which children under 16 years of age have been banned on social media platforms like tickets, Facebook and Instagram. But YouTubers are exempted from this and the question is why it is so?
This work was done by Australian Communications Minister Mitchell Roland. According to a report by Bloomberg, he himself guaranteed YouTube CEO Neil Mohan, saying that the ban would not apply to YouTube. YouTube was then exempted and he was able to continue his services in Australia.
Dissatisfaction in many companies
Now many social media companies have been troubled by this decision. Snapchat and Ticketkock, owners of Facebook and Instagram along with Meta, have also opposed it. The ticket even called it ‘inappropriate’ and argued that there is no major difference between YouTube and Tickets. Both platforms are for sharing short videos, so it is beyond comprehension why YouTube got a discount. Ticketkel’s original company bytedens has described it as a one -sided deal. He compared this to ban soft drinks and exempt Coca-Cola.
YouTube got discount
Following the guarantee to YouTube, Mitchell Rolland wrote a letter to Neil Mohan on 9 December 2024 confirming the legal discount for YouTube. He then planned to meet YouTube officials, although the location of the meeting was not revealed. This is special because YouTube has now become Australia’s largest social media platform.
