An aggressive and foreign species of ants is wreaking havoc in Germany. These ants belong to the ‘Tapinoma Magnum’ species. This ant originated in the Mediterranean region is now spreading rapidly towards northern Germany. Due to this, electricity and internet services are also being disrupted. Experts say that large colonies of this species are not only damaging technical infrastructure, but are also affecting human life.
According to Manfred Verhag, the insertion of Carlsrauhe’s Natural History Museum, the supercoloni of Tapenoma Magnum has millions of ants. These ants are many times larger than traditional species. These settlements have reached the northern cities of Germany such as Cologne and Hanover. Due to this, technical infrastructure such as power supply and internet network is in danger.
What did scientists say?
Scientists say that this ant is rapidly installing settlements, especially in the Baden-Vurtemburg and surrounding areas. Electricity and internet have already been cut due to this species in the town called Kahal. However, ants have also been seen in other European countries like Switzerland and France. However, it will no longer be limited to Germany.
However, Tapenoma Magnum has not yet officially declared an aggressive species, as its widespread impact on the local ecosystem has not yet been proved. However, the environment secretary of Baden-Vurtembberg Andre Bamman considers it an insect and warns that it can cause great damage if it is not controlled in time.
