A 27-year-old worker, Dharam Gopal Rai, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his co-worker, Anil Sudama Bind alias Guddu (29), by striking his head with a 20-kilogram weight at a fabrication shop in Karanjade, Panvel. The attack was reportedly fueled by a long-standing workplace conflict where the victim frequently insulted and dominated the accused.

Both Rai and Bind, originally from Uttar Pradesh, worked and lived together with another labourer at a fabrication shop in Chaitanya Shri Samarth Krupa Society, Karanjade, Sector-2A. “Anil Bind, who was physically stronger, often bullied Rai, which allegedly led to built-up resentment over time,” a police officer from Panvel police station.

On Friday, the workers celebrated Holi with their employer, consuming alcohol together. Around 3 pm, after the shop owner left, Bind, in a drunken state, fell asleep inside the shop. Taking opportunity of the situation, Rai allegedly picked up a 20-kg weight and struck Bind’s head, killing him on the spot.

Upon learning of the incident, the shop owner alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and questioned both remaining workers. During interrogation, Rai confessed to the crime, leading to his immediate arrest. The Panvel City police have registered a murder case against him and are investigating further.
