Pregnancy is the most sensitive time in a woman’s life, where every small and big habit affects the child in her womb. If women consume alcohol during this period, it can have a deep impact on the brain development of their child. A recent research has revealed that consuming just one glass of alcohol during pregnancy is enough to change the shape of the baby’s brain.
Research conducted at the Medical University of Vienna found that exposure to alcohol can cause a child’s right superior temporal sulcus (STS) to become shallow. This is the part of the brain that controls the ability to feel and learn language. Researchers said consuming small amounts of alcohol during pregnancy also affects brain structure and development.
How to avoid alcohol?
Dr. Patrick Kienast, lead author of the study and neurologist at Vienna Medical University, says that pregnant women should completely avoid alcohol. They said alcohol consumption during pregnancy may delay brain maturation and lead to structural changes. This not only affects the mental development of the child, but also affects his emotional and physical development.
