Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): A controversy erupted in Gwalior on Saturday, after a woman shot a reel using inappropriate language while sitting on ancient Jain Tirthankar idols at Gwalior Fort.
The video has angered the Jain community, who have demanded strict action against the woman and her family members.
According to information, the woman in the video has been identified as Preeti Kushwah, a resident of Narwar in Shivpuri district.
In the video, she can be seen wearing footwear and sitting on the idols of Jain Tirthankars, located at the base of Gwalior fort. She uses ‘objectionable language’ and refers to the sacred idols as ‘stone statues,’ comparing them to plastic and wooden dummies.
Jain community demands FIR, arrest
The reel was shared on social media, which has sparked outrage among the Jain community.
After coming across the video, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Shri Digambar Jain Baraiya Mahasabha submitted a memorandum to Gwalior SSP Dharmveer Singh. They have demanded an FIR against those responsible and their immediate arrest.
The ancient idols hold deep religious significance for the Jain community. The community believes the actions in the video insult their faith and heritage.
Jain monk condemns actions
Jain monk Muni Vilok Sagar Ji also condemned the act. He stated that such behavior hurts religious sentiments and disrespects cultural heritage. He also said that even damaged or old idols should not be insulted. He called for strict punishment for those who mock any faith.
Police officials said they are currently investigating the incident and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
