Former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud expressed deep concern over the incident and said that:
“There were many changes in the laws after the Nirbhaya incident, but just by enacting the laws, such crimes will not stop.”
“It is also the responsibility of the society to ensure the safety of women.”
“In such cases quick investigation, strict action and the culprits should be punished severely.”
He advised the police and justice system to function more effectively so that women can get justice and such incidents are not repeated.
What is the whole matter?
The horrific incident took place at 5:45 am on February 25 at the Swargate Bus Depot of Pune, which is the largest bus stand of Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC).
The victim is working in the medical field and was waiting for the bus to go to Satara.
A person started talking to her by saying ‘Didi’ and made an excuse to take her up to the standing bus.
The accused took the woman to an empty AC bus, where there was no light, which suspected the woman.
He assured that this is the right bus, as soon as the woman went inside, the accused raped her and escaped from the spot.
Police action in search of accused
According to Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, the main accused Dattatraya Ramdas Gade (37) is a history -sheeter and is absconding since the incident.
A reward of ₹ 1 lakh has been declared for the arrest of the accused.
