Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A woman constable who accused Lieutenant Colonel Varun Pratap Singh of rape has now lodged another complaint, alleging that he is pressuring her to compromise in the case, Kamla Nagar police said on Sunday.

The accused officer, currently posted at the ASC Battalion in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, has allegedly been trying to coerce the victim to withdraw her complaint. She has submitted WhatsApp chat records as evidence of the pressure.

The victim, an investigation agency employee, had previously filed a rape case against Singh at Mahila Thana on March 27. She claims they were in a 13-year relationship, during which Singh repeatedly assaulted her under the pretext of marriage.

She later found he was already married. Their association began in 2012 when Singh was a Major in Bhopal. The woman alleges he met her at an Army cafeteria, falsely claimed to be single, and proposed marriage.

Their first physical encounter reportedly took place on December 25, 2012, at a government bungalow, followed by further relations under the promise of marriage. She alleges that Singh continuously evaded marriage, citing his parents’ health issues.

When she confronted him, he allegedly issued death threats. She now claims he is using a close cousin to intimidate her. ACP Mahila Suraksha Nidhi Saxena said that police have received the complaint and initiated an investigation. Despite serious charges, the accused officer is yet to be arrested.
