Kolkata: Amid provocative speeches of capturing Bengal, Bihar and Odisha by a BNP leader in Bangladesh, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday without naming anyone made it clear that India will counter back if there is any attack by external forces in Indian territory.
“Those who are saying that they will capture Bengal, Bihar and Odisha may God bless them. Do they think that we will eat lollipops and they will attack? I appeal that everyone should maintain their peace of mind and should not get provoked by statements made in Bangladesh,” said Mamata.
The West Bengal Chief Minister once again made it clear that the West Bengal government will accept any decision that the central government will take over the Bangladesh issue.
“Some political parties are trying to provoke people. We will not do anything that can go against our friends, brothers and sisters residing in Bangladesh. In our state, even imams have condemned the comments and attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. We should not do anything that could aggravate the situation of West Bengal. Our state is the first state in the country where people of all religions have protested over the Bangladesh issue,” further added Mamata.
Mamata even asked all political parties and media organizations to be ‘responsible’ while discussing the situation of Bangladesh.
Notably, for the first time during the interim-government in Bangladesh, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met with his Bangladeshi counterpart Mohammad Jashim Uddin over the recent attacks on Hindu minorities and temples.
Meanwhile, ISKCON Kolkata vice president Radharaman Das had thanked Foreign Secretary of India for raising the issue of attack on minorities in Bangladesh during Foreign secretary level meeting at Dhaka.
“If the attack goes down and if the situation changes and normalcy gets restored then we can be assured that the Hindu minorities are safe there. I am still hopeful that the situation will change,” mentioned Radharaman Das.
