Solar Eclipse 2025: Will It Be Visible From Mumbai? Best Sites To View, Tips And More | Pinterest

Mumbai: Astronomy enthusiasts are excitedly awaiting a partial solar eclipse on March 29, 2025, marking the year’s first occurrence. This phenomenon will create a crescent-shaped Sun since it is partially covered by the Moon, observable in Europe, Northwestern Africa, Greenland, Iceland, and sections of the northeastern US and eastern Canada. In a partial solar eclipse, the Moon isn’t completely aligned, resulting in what looks like “devil horns” in the atmosphere.

Although the greatest extent of the eclipse will be seen in northeastern Canada and Greenland, the partial solar eclipse won’t be observable in India. According to Indian Standard Time (IST), the solar eclipse will begin on March 29 at 2:20:43 p.m., reach its maximum at 4:17:27 p.m., and finish at 4:13:45 p.m.

The infrequent astronomical event takes place when the Earth, Moon, and Sun are perfectly aligned. A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon completely obscures the Sun.

Where Will Solar Eclipse Be Visible?

In the US, the eclipse starts at approximately 4:50 am EDT, peaks at 6:47 am EDT, and concludes by 8:43 am EDT. Key cities like New York, Boston, Montreal, and Quebec will offer great viewing chances, with distinct peak times for different states: New York (6:35 am to 7:12 am), Massachusetts (6:27 am to 7:08 am), Maine (6:13 am to 7:17 am), and Pennsylvania (6:46 am to 7:08 am). New Jersey will experience it from 6:43 am to 7:06 am, whereas Virginia’s viewing time is from 6:50 am to 7:03 am.

In Europe, the eclipse begins after 10 am GMT, reaches its maximum at 11:03 am GMT, and concludes by noon, mainly observable in Northern and Central Europe. Protective eyewear is crucial to avoid harm during the eclipse; you should only use certified solar viewers that comply with ISO 12312-2 standards. Live streams will be accessible for worldwide viewing as well.
