Chandigarh: Stating that he would guard the statue of Ambedkar in Jalandhar’s Phillaur town, senior Punjab Dalit BJP leader and former Union minister Vijay Sampla on Tuesday dared banned terror outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) to touch the statue.
It may be recalled that SFJ, which had desecrated the statue of Ambedkar at village Nangal near Phillaur town in Jalandhar on March 30, threatened to again damage it on April 14 on the occasion of Ambedkar jayanti.
According to police, the SFJ chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannu had taken the responsibility for the act and had stated that he would get all statues of Dr Ambedkar removed in Punjab on April 14.
Sampla said that Dr Ambedkar is the creator of the Indian constitution that has given the Dalit section of society a level playing field and granted them equal opportunities in all spheres of life.
Demanding Pannu’s extradition from America to India for trial, Sampla demanded that the Punjab government register FIR against Pannu under the SC/ST Act and for sacrilege for belittling Guru Ravidass and Dr Ambedkar.
