“Although Anandraj Ambedkar has claimed that he is the president of the People’s Education Society (PES) established by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, I am the president of PES and it has been asserted by the Charitable Commissioner as well. We will demand Rs 500 crore funds for the development of PES to the chief minister,” said Union Minister for Social Justice Ramdas Athawale.

He was briefing the press on the occasion of the Namvistar Divas on Tuesday. Athawale said PES has started several colleges in the state. Now, the society is facing financial crunches and hence, a demand will be made to the chief minister to provide funds for the development of PES.

A meeting was held at the district collectorate to review the works of schemes run by the social justice department. He directed the officers to effectively implement the schemes for the needy people and the benefits of the schemes should reach at the grassroots level.

The Union government runs schemes like PM Awas Yojana, Ujjawala Gas Yojana, Jandhan Yojana, financial aid for the disabled, promotion of inter-caste marriages, senior citizens Vayoshree scheme, and other schemes through the social justice department. The administration has been directed to implement the schemes effectively, Athawale mentioned.

The district administration informed the minister that around 80% of the target of the Ramai Awas and PM Awas schemes has been achieved. Under these schemes, 6,000 houses have been provided in the municipal corporation jurisdiction, while there is a need for 30,000 more houses. Similarly, 1,70,015 people have benefitted through Ujjawala Gas Yojana and 15.38 lakh through the Jandhan scheme.

District Collector Dilip Swami, Municipal Commissioner G Srikanth, ZP CEO Vikas Meena, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University’s Pro Vice-Chancellor Valmik Sarwade, CP Praveen Pawar, SP Vinaykumar Rathod, Assistant Commissioner Social Welfare Pradeep Bhagale, District Supply Officer Pravin Fulari, Apex Bank manager Mangesh Kedar and other officers were present.
