Nepal Thousands of supporters were welcomed by thousands of supporters in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. During this period, there was a demand to restore monarchy and Hinduism as state religion. It is estimated that about 10,000 supporters of Gyanendra blocked the main entrance of Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu when they were returning from a visit to western Nepal. According to reports, the crowd consisted of members and activists of the National Democracy Party (RPP). The RPP formed in the 1990s is now demanding the restoration of the monarchy.

RPP has the support of old colleagues in the monarchy. The party has 14 seats out of 275 in the Nepali Parliament, while it got only one seat in the last election. The next election in Nepal will be held in 2027. Let us understand the current political situation of Nepal and know how Gyanendra Shah was removed from power and there is a demand for Hindu monarchy in the country.

When former King Gyanendra Shah was removed from the post

77 -year -old Gyanendra became king in 2002, when his elder brother Birendra Bir Bikram Shah and his family were murdered in the palace. He ruled as a constitutional state head of no executive or political power by 2005. After this, he took the entire power in his hands and said that he is working to defeat the anti -monarchy Maoist rebels.

The king dissolved the government and Parliament, imprisoned politicians and journalists, cut the communication system, declared emergency and used the army to rule the country.

Due to all this, there were large -scale protests on the roads, due to which in 2006, Gyanendra had to hand over power to the multi -party government. The government signed a peace agreement with the Maoists, ending the ongoing civil war in which thousands of people were killed.

Gyanendra gave up the post after the Nepal’s Parliament voted to end the 240 -year -old Hindu monarchy in 2008 and to convert the country into a secular republic.

Since then, 13 governments have come to power in Nepal and many people of the country have become disillusioned with this republic. He says that the government has failed to bring political stability and constantly blames governments for Nepal’s collapse economy and comprehensive corruption.

Why does the people of Nepal want to return to the monarchy?

The rally organized to welcome Gyanendra said that they hope to change the political system to protect the country from deteriorating.

72 -year -old arrow Bahadur Bhandari told the news agency AP, “We are standing behind him to give Raja full support and make him back to the throne.”

Analysts say that in Nepali politics, “This change towards the monarchy” reflects deep dissatisfaction with corrupt governments. This also shows that the public is eager to return to the monarchy, which was formally terminated after a popular movement in 2008.

Will Gyanendra Shah come back?

Despite being removed from the throne, Gyanendra did not leave the country. Speaking on the eve of Nepal’s National Democracy Day on 18 February, he urged the Nepalis to unite for “the defense, progress and prosperity of the country” and appealed to the country to move forward on the path of progress.

According to The print, he said, “The politics that adopt a negative attitude does not strengthen democracy. The ego, personal interest and bigotry of the ruling and opposition parties cannot make democracy dynamic. ”

The editorial of Kathmandu Post was warned against praising the monarchy. Many people believe that it would be an exaggeration to say that the majority of Nepal wants to restore the organization of the monarchy, as the monarchy claims.

The editorial states, “The best criteria for the popularity of a political party or political ideology in democracy is the support of him in the ballot.” The editorial states that RPP is still not a politically strong party in any way.
