Why do toilet flush have two buttons? Know its real purpose and way of saving water

We use many such things in everyday life, whose real utility we do not know. The toilet flush is also one of them. Almost every person goes to the washroom every day and presses the flush button and comes out, but have you ever wondered why the toilet flush has two different size buttons? Are these only part of the design or is there a special purpose behind it?

recently Water Initiative Trust (WIT) A report of this has revealed surprising information about this. According to the report, even today about 85 percent of the people do not know what is the correct use of both the buttons of toilet flush. Due to lack of this information, millions of liters of water is being wasted every day.

What does two buttons mean in toilet flush?

The dual flush system given in the toilet has been prepared keeping in mind the water savings. This system has two buttons:

  • Small button (Half Flush):
It should be used after urination. It does not require too much water. Half flush costs about 3 liters of water.
  • Big button (full flush):
It should be used after bowel movements as this situation requires more cleaning. Full flush costs about 6 liters of water.

How can water be saved?

According to the WIT report, if every person starts using these two buttons properly, then each house can save thousands of liters of water annually. Now imagine that if this habit is adopted in millions of homes and institutions across the country, then we can get control of a serious problem like water scarcity.
