Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old with a stellar academic record has been arrested for the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Who Is Luigi Mangione?
As per news reports, Mangione hails from Maryland state in the US and is from a wealthy family. He received top-tier education in an elite all-boys private school and was even the top ranker when he graduated in 2016.
He then attended University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League university in the US. He graduated in 2020 with bachelor’s and masters in Computer Science.

What Was Luigi Mangione’s Motivation For Murder?
Although it hasn’t been said officially, Mangione’s act of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson may have its roots in insurance denials or the general way of functioning of these companies.
There is massive anger among Americans who pay large sums for health insurance only for the claims to be denied by insurance companies who spend huge resources to find loopholes to refuse payments.
UnitedHealthcare is the largest health insurer in the US. As per report published in Forbes, UnitedHealth’s insurance denial rate is higher than other insurance companies as the company was found to refuse one-third of insurance claims filed by its customers.
As revealed by US investigators last week, the bullet casings found at the scene of the murder had words “Defend, “Deny” and “Depose” written on them. These three words are often collectively used to describe strategy insurance companies use to refuse claims.

The Mangione family has posted a statement on Facebook saying they couldn’t believe Luigi could take such a step.
Mangione has been presented in court which said that he was to held in police custody without bail. CNN reported that he faces charges involving murder, forging documents and possessing firearm without license.
