A video showing World Health Organisation (WHO) chief Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, one of the top United Nations official, running for his safety is doing rounds on social media. The WHO chief was at the airport in Yemen’s capital Sana’a when the airport came under Israeli attack. The missile attack claimed at least two lives. Dr Tedros was waiting to board a plane.
The video shows Dr Tedros seated in what looks like waiting area of the airport. He, along with others seated beside him, can be seen getting up from their chairs alarmingly and running towards what is expectedly an exit that’s not pictured in the footage.
Watch the video below.
The WHO chief took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to describe the ordeal.
UN Condemns Attack On WHO Chief
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the attack. He asked Israel to respect the International Law.
He also called the airstrikes on the Sanaa International Airport, the Red Sea ports and power stations in Yemen “alarming”.
Israel has been attacking Houthi targets in Yemen. The Houthi rebels have been conducting attacks against Israel which they say are in ‘solidarity’ with Palestine amid the Israel-Hamas war. Israel has retaliated.
However, attacking a location where a top UN official is present is being seen as a major development.
