Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): More than 10 days have passed since 52-kg gold and cash of Rs 11 crore were found in an abandoned vehicle by income tax department but no one has come forward to claim the ownership of the seized booty.
The income tax department believes that seized contraband is of former transport constable Saurabh Sharma who is abroad. The department officials are scanning through the seized incriminating documents including a diary to check the money trail. The diary is learnt to contain details of money transaction and several names.
The I-T department seized diary and incriminating documents on the information provided by Chetan Singh Gaur who had recorded his statements before the department’s investigating officials. He was questioned by I-T department because the vehicle from which gold and cash were recovered is in Gaur’s name.
Seized diary generates political heat
Lokayukta police had conducted raid at the residence of Saurabh Sharma and Chetan Singh Gaur. It seized huge cash and valuables along with several dairies having details of money transaction and names. On Wednesday, Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari said Lokayukta police seized a red dairy, which contains names of influential persons and they are written in code words.
They should come in public domain, he added. He claimed diary mentions transaction of Rs 2,000 crore. He reiterated that life of Saurabh was under threat. In box ‘Not my name’ Replying to a questions of media regarding the red dairy, former minister and BJP MLA Gopal Bhargava said that at least his name was not in the dairy.
