Ram Navami, a sacred festival marking the birth of Lord Rama, is celebrated with immense devotion across India. The festival is particularly significant in North India, where it coincides with the conclusion of Chaitra Navratri.
Many devotees perform Homa (a ritual fire offering) and conclude their nine-day Navratri celebrations on this day, which is also known as Rama Navratri. However, many are uncertain about the exact date of the festival in 2025. Keep reading to know the correct date and muhurat.
When is Ram Navami 2025?
According to the Hindu Panchang (calendar), festivals are determined based on the Tithi (lunar date) rather than the fixed dates of the Gregorian calendar. The Navami Tithi, which determines the observance of Ram Navami, follows the timings below:
Navami Tithi Begins: April 5, 2025, at 7:26 PM
Navami Tithi Ends: on April 6, 2025, at 7:22 PM
Shubh Muhurat for Puja: April 6, 2025, from 11:08 AM to 1:39 PM
As per Hindu customs, since the Navami Tithi prevails at sunrise on Sunday, April 6, Ram Navami will be celebrated on this day.
History and significance of Ram Navami
Ram Navami has been observed since ancient times, dating back to the Treta Yuga, when Lord Rama was born. Although there are no historical records to determine the exact number of years since his birth, Vedic scriptures suggest that Lord Rama’s birth occurred approximately a million years ago. The festival signifies the victory of righteousness and the embodiment of dharma (righteousness) in the form of Lord Rama.
How is Ram Navami celebrated?
Devotees celebrate Ram Navami by observing fasts, chanting hymns, and organising grand processions with idols of Lord Rama. Many temples conduct elaborate prayers and recite the Ramayana, the epic that narrates the life and virtues of Lord Rama. In some regions, theatrical performances known as ‘Ramlila’ depict episodes from the Ramayana, drawing large crowds of devotees.
