Renowned filmmaker and talk show host Karan Johar recently opened up about his incredible weight loss journey, revealing that he has been following the OMAD diet -One Meal A Day. During his appearance on Raj Shamani’s podcast, KJo shared, “For 15-20 years, I had no idea that I had certain thyroid fluctuations that needed treatment. But when I finally found out, I started a diet called OMAD – One Meal A Day. The first seven days were very difficult, but I did it for seven months. I did not have lactose, gluten and sugar during that regime.”
Known for his flamboyant fashion sense and outspoken personality, Karan’s transformation has inspired many, prompting curiosity around the unconventional eating pattern he credits for shedding excess weight and boosting his energy levels. There were also rumors of Karan using Ozempic drug to go through drastic weight loss. Only recently, he revealed about his OMAD diet that has helped him reduce weight and helped him with Dysmorphia.
Understanding OMAD: One Meal A Day
OMAD, short for ‘One Meal A Day,’ is a form of intermittent fasting where individuals consume all of their daily calories within a single eating window, typically lasting one hour. The rest of the day-around 23 hours-is spent fasting, with only water, black coffee, or non-caloric drinks allowed. The diet aims to simplify eating, reduce calorie intake, and promote fat burning through prolonged fasting.
Why Karan chose OMAD?
In a candid conversation, Karan shared that traditional diets didn’t work well for him due to his erratic schedule and love for food. OMAD offered him a structured yet flexible routine. By eating just once a day, he found it easier to manage cravings, stay focused, and maintain a calorie deficit, which is crucial for weight loss. He also mentioned feeling more mentally clear and energetic since starting the diet.
Is OMAD right for everyone?
While OMAD has worked for Karan Johar, it may not be suitable for everyone. Health experts often recommend consulting a doctor or nutritionist before starting such a restrictive eating plan, especially for those with underlying health conditions, blood sugar issues, or a history of disordered eating. OMAD can be effective for weight loss, but it requires discipline and careful meal planning to ensure nutritional needs are met.
