Suburban train services of the Western Railway (WR) were disrupted on Tuesday afternoon due to a technical issue on the up fast line between the Virar and Vasai section. According to sources, an AC local train and a non AC local train faced delays as a result of the problem.
The disruption occurred when the dimensions of a portion of the track on the up fast line were found to have changed.
A senior WR officer confirmed that routine maintenance work was underway in the section around 1:10 pm when the issue was detected.
To address the problem, a special 50-minute traffic block was taken, during which services on the up fast line were diverted to the up slow line.
During the block period up fast line trains were diverted on up slow line.
“The issue was resolved within the block period, and normal services resumed shortly thereafter,” the officer said.
In a separate incident, train operations on the Central Railway (CR) line were also impacted in the afternoon due to an external issue near Diva station.
