Navi Mumbai: The connectivity to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is set to improve significantly, with the Western Entry Interchange expected to be completed by June 2025. Developed by CIDCO and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the interchange will streamline traffic from Aamra Marg and Ulwe Coastal Road, ensuring seamless entry to the airport.

The Western Entry Interchange is a half cloverleaf structure that integrates with a 1.2-kilometer elevated link road forming part of the Ulwe Coastal Road. It features two loops and two ramps, designed to efficiently manage traffic from both the north and south of the airport. Additional components include a Vehicular Underpass (VUP) and a bridge over the Ulwe Resource Channel, said a Cidco official.

This critical infrastructure is part of broader plan by CIDCO to provide multimodal access to NMIA. According to CIDCO Vice Chairman and Managing Director Shri Vijay Singhal, “CIDCO has undertaken several connectivity projects to ensure seamless connectivity to NMIA from various vital entry points. Among them, Western and Eastern Entry Interchanges are more significant for direct access to the airport.”

To support these developments, the NHAI has launched the Port Connectivity Program and formed a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) — Mumbai-JNPT Port Road Company Ltd. (MJPRCL). The SPV includes stakeholders NHAI (67.04%), JNPT (26.04%), and CIDCO (6.05%). MJPRCL has expanded key arterial roads including Aamra Marg, SH-54, and NH-4B, which now form vital access corridors to the airport. CIDCO has also contributed land worth over Rs 3,000 crore toward the project.

The Ulwe Coastal Road will eventually link Atal Setu to NMIA, further enhancing regional access. On the eastern side, a full cloverleaf Eastern Interchange connecting to NH 4B (NH 548) is also being developed.

“With these infrastructure upgrades, NMIA is poised to become one of the most accessible airports in the region, bolstering its role as a key transportation hub for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region,” the officer added.
