Kolkata: Amid row between the doctors and the state administration, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee hoping to bury RG Kar hatchet increases salaries of interns, house staff, post-graduate trainees, post-doctoral trainees and even senior doctors.
Addressing an assembly of doctors and nurses at Dhono Dhanno stadium in Kolkata, the West Bengal Chief Minister also withdrew the suspension of junior doctors at Midnapore Medical College over the saline death incident.
“Salaries of interns, house staff, post-graduate trainees, post-doctoral trainees are being raised by Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000 hike is being given to the senior doctors. The doctors community should rise above politics. Your colour is not that of politics but that of humanity and service,” mentioned Mamata.
Mamata also assured all help to the medical fraternity from the state administration.
“Even though all patients cannot be saved, good behaviour and few words of sympathy makes the patients happy. ‘Chikitsar opor naam holo seba’ (Another name of treatment is serving). During the Left front regime they didn’t pay heed to the health sector. I had seen that the gates of SSKM Hospital and Sambhunath Pandit Hospital were small. So, the first thing I did was to widen the gates for the patients to have easy access,” further mentioned Mamata.
The West Bengal Chief Minister had also sanctioned Rs. Two crore to create cultural and sports competition between hospitals and medical colleges.
“The supers or the Principals of medical colleges should take stock of medicines and saline after every three months to ensure there are no expired medicines. In Midnapore, what happened was unfortunate. Actions were taken and junior doctors were also suspended. I withdraw that suspension,” further added Mamata also condemning the rape and murder in RG Kar Medical college and hospital.
Meanwhile, the parents of RG Kar rape and murder victim had expressed their ‘displeasure’ over CBI probe in the matter at the court.
