The new year 2025 has begun, and people across the country welcomed the new year with great enthusiasm. There was an atmosphere of celebration in different cities from the national capital New Delhi to Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai. A large number of people gathered at Marine Drive in Mumbai to welcome the New Year, where fireworks were also enjoyed. The New Year was warmly welcomed in Kolkata also. In Punjab’s religious city Amritsar, a large number of people reached the Golden Temple and wished each other a Happy New Year. In Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, people were seen welcoming 2025 by cutting the cake, while a huge crowd was seen in GIP Mall of Noida till late night.

Thousands of police personnel were deployed on Tuesday to ensure the safety of people during New Year celebrations. CCTV cameras were installed at every nook and corner and traffic was controlled in the states. To curb drunken driving, traffic policemen were deployed at various places in major cities and were provided with alcometers. A senior police officer said around 20,000 police and paramilitary personnel were deployed in Delhi on New Year’s Eve. 50 special teams were deployed at major places to stop drunk driving.

“We have made elaborate arrangements to ensure the safety of all residents and visitors on New Year’s Eve,” New Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Devesh Kumar Mahala said. He said that special security arrangements have been made in view of the possibility of a large number of people attending clubs, hotels, restaurants, pubs, and malls.

Over 14,000 police personnel were deployed in Mumbai to maintain law and order in Maharashtra, including over 12,000 constables, 2,184 officers, 53 assistant commissioners, 29 deputy commissioners, and eight additional commissioner-level officers. At the same time, the Government Railway Police has increased security at railway stations and platforms. More than 7,500 CCTV cameras have been installed in Karnataka’s capital Bengaluru, and special checkpoints and police deployment have been increased to ensure public safety.
