Various parts of the country are currently battling the effects of severe cold, dense fog, and rain. Cold winds and cold wave have affected life in North India. Cold has been at its peak in Delhi-NCR for the last few days. There was dense fog on Sunday morning, due to which visibility became extremely low. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of light rain and snowfall in the mountains in many areas of North India including Delhi.
Cold and fog condition in Delhi
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), dense fog affected the traffic system in Delhi on Sunday morning.
- Visibility: Operation of many trains was delayed due to extremely low visibility.
- temperature: The maximum temperature is likely to be 17°C and minimum 11°C.
- Rain: Light rain has been predicted in many parts of Delhi, prominent among which are Karawal Nagar, Dilshad Garden, Shahdara, and Dwarka.
Light rain was also recorded in some parts of Delhi on Saturday evening, which further increased the cold. This combination of fog and rain in Delhi-NCR has made the winter more intense.
Fog and rain alert in Uttar Pradesh
The effect of cold winds and dense fog is visible in Uttar Pradesh.
- Eastern UP: Drizzle and fog warning has been issued in districts like Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, and Mirzapur.
- western up: There is a possibility of rain in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, and Mathura.
The Meteorological Department said that life is affected due to fog and cold. Drivers have been advised to exercise special caution.
Himachal Pradesh: havoc of snowfall and cold winds
Cold winds continue in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh.
- temperature: Minimum temperature of -10.2°C was recorded in Tabo of Lahaul-Spiti. It was -5.9°C in Samdho and -0.9°C in Manali.
- snowfall: There is a possibility of snowfall in central and higher areas.
- effect of western disturbance: A new Western Disturbance may become active in Himachal and North-West India from January 14.
There is a possibility of further increase in cold with light rain in the plains of Himachal.

- More than 70 mm of rain was recorded in many areas on Saturday.

The Meteorological Department has warned that a new western disturbance may become active in North India from January 14. Due to this, there is a possibility of a new round of rain and snowfall. This can further increase the effect of cold.
