The weather took a sudden turn in Uttarakhand on Monday, causing snowfall in the higher reaches of the state and light rain in the plains. Seasonal snowfall was seen in higher areas like Chakrata, Mussoorie, Gangotri, Harsil, Kedarnath, which increased the severe cold. Whereas in the plains, a feeling of chill has started with drizzle.
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain and snowfall in the coming days in many districts of the state. It started raining in other plains including Dehradun from Monday morning, and light snowfall was also seen in Mussoorie.
Weather forecast: Rain and snowfall alert
The Meteorological Department has predicted rain in Uttarakhand and snowfall in high altitude areas on December 27 and 28. Apart from this, light rain and snowfall may occur in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Bageshwar districts on December 24. According to meteorologist Rohit Thapliyal, western disturbance will be active from December 27, due to which there is a possibility of further changes in the weather.
Possibility of light rain in eight districts of Uttarakhand
The Meteorological Center has predicted light rain in eight districts of Uttarakhand—Uttarakashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Dehradun, Tehri, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh and Almora during December 27 and 28. Along with this, snowfall may occur in areas higher than three thousand meters.
Tourists happy due to snowfall in Uttarkashi
The weather changed its mood in Uttarkashi district on Monday. The second snowfall of the season in higher reaches like Gangotri and Harsil Valley, Mori attracted tourists. Places like Yamunotri Dham and Radi Top also received snowfall, which increased the cold in the lower areas. During this period, snowfall started in villages like Gangotri Dham, Harshil, Jhala, Mukhba and Bagori.
Snowfall in Badrinath and Kedarnath in Chamoli district
With the change in weather in Chamoli district, there is snowfall on the hills of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Hemkund and Rudranath. The temperature in Badrinath has fallen to minus 5 degrees Celsius. There is continuous snowfall on the high hills of Nanda Devi and Kamet, due to which the temperature has dropped.
Waiting for the weather for farmers and local people
The weather in Dewal and surrounding areas had deteriorated since morning. The sky remained cloudy throughout the day, and light snowfall in the higher Himalayan regions increased the cold in the plains. Local farmers are waiting for the rain, while people are hiding in their homes to avoid the cold and are trying to get relief by lighting bonfires by wearing warm clothes.
Cold increased due to snowfall
Increasing cold in the state is affecting normal life, especially in the hilly areas. People may also face difficulties in traveling due to snowfall.
